+1 Both are good, I just posted some nice ways that games could be setup to play with 6 players viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4299

But you do also need a random option in order to be able to make a fair start to a match when required.

If we can only have one, the status quo is the most flexible. E.g., the status quo can be made random/fair by external means, but a default random cannot similarly be made un-random. Options are always good, however.

The option to randomise teams and player order is needed. A system that incorporates random ordering as well as fully configurable ordering would be favourable. A 'virtual referee' is often needed even within a customised set up...

Obviously sometimes the host will need to have absolute control on the team/player order, but I think in general players will possibly be more likely to want to be able to set up their custom games as 'semi-customised' games...

...When the players are in the lobby they will decide on the general conditions together then customise the settings accordingly and then perhaps prefer to rely on the matchmaker bit to decide who acts first (particularly in a 1v1 and 2v2, any format really I guess)... in the case of a 3way, all 3 players would collectively decide on the game mode/turn limit/length etc and then opt for a random starting order...

...kinda like the coin flip at the start of a sports event to decide who kicks first, the host sets the game up then does the sporting thing and leaves it to the flip of a coin to decide who acts first. The friendly matchmaker had a virtual referee, the custom matchmaker kinda needs one to, the custom lobby has superseded the friendly matchmaker in all other departments.

going first is an advantage. unless one player submits or there is an out-of-game rng to decide on which player goes first, the game would never start as it would never be fair/acceptable conditions.

Agreed, it feels like First Turn Advantage came back in a big way when burn mana was cut.. and if you enter a forum tournament and you're not the host of any of the custom games, you are always going to act second.

So technically it's an exploit, hosting guarantees you FTA. For fairness, any kind of 1v1 needs to have a randomised starting order by default, even custom 1v1's.

BUMP - Please add the functionality of a check box that would randomise player order for custom matches.

No being able to do this is playing havoc when setting up custom competitions.

its much tougher now to create game for custom player-made tournaments. it used to be so much easier before, just give your opponent the game ID and the game would autostart with randomise order.

Now we have to literally jump through hoops and have a 3rd party even randomise the play order. At least if the CR client randomised order as it used to it would be one less hoop to have to jump through :)

The custom game invites are very good when they work, but it'd be nice if you could still join via a game ID also.


And there are some team matches where you want to set a very specific player order, it's not that all games should be in random order, but the possibility should exist to randomise the order from within the custom game lobby.
